Undergrad lost 700k

March 14th, 2007 · 1 Comment

Read a piece of very sad news recently. New paper just reported that a 27yo undergraduate lost 700k in the recent market correction. I cannot imagine how someone my age can bear this kind of financial difficulty. To top it all off, the money was lost in a very short time span.

I suppose right now, there might be a group of people saying that playing the stock market is ala gambling. Stock market is a risky place to put your money. I totally agree.

Those so called investors that does not do their homework on the companies that they are buying takes too much risk. Those so called investors that use money that they cannot afford to lose in the trade are gamblers.

All these can be avoided by proper money management and research on the companies that they buy. By then stock market is no longer risky, but instead a calculated risk.

Nothing is risk free, even crossing the road is risky. When knowledge increases, the risk decrease.
