Lack of Target…

November 26th, 2007 · No Comments

Comrat fund has started for about 4 months now… 3 out of 4 months I was in a bad losing streak. At the lowest point, the fund was down by 22%.

The irony of things is that more than 3/4 of the trades that I went into during the 3 losing months, I was spot on in the trades. So how did I end up in a losing streak?

A lack of target…

The trades that I made in those 3 months were all in the same pattern. They will go up by at least 200% for the next few days then drop to a losing position. Techincally, it means that my exiting strategy is bad. However, after analysis with Lixian on how I trade she pointed out something obvious.

If I were to set a monthly target, I will actually exit “correctly” once my trade target hits it.

For the 4th month, I did exactly that. I set a target for the month and exited my position once I hit it.

I also used my trade for nothing strategy that I did not use in the 3 losing months.(If I were to used that strategy I would not have lost at all)

Lesson Learnt:

Set targets.

Capital Preservation even if it means less profits.

Balance Greed and Fear.

Thanks Lixian.

Tiring tiring August.

September 2nd, 2007 · No Comments

My energy level for the month of August was serverely depleted… After recovering from a bout of illness, I plunged right into a series of company activities… I also in the middle of preparing my probation demo to my MD… I have to commit myself to go to the gym regularly to get back my energy…

Nevertheless, I had a very happy August… Things turned out unexpectedly good…

Up, down, up, down, up?

September 2nd, 2007 · No Comments

Wah… the last couple of weeks the market was so indecisive and the chart resembles a heart monitor…

Not a particularly good period to do trading for me… Although consensus is that this kind of market is a great market for day trader, I think myself is still too green behind the ears to capture the opportunities abound in the market.

Oh well… The FEDs just announced that they will do what they can to stablise the market… I will be going back to the market soon…

Time to grow the comrat fund… :P

Dow tumble

July 29th, 2007 · No Comments

Last thursday and friday was quite an exciting 2 days. Maybe exciting should not be a word to use for those 2 days… Since I suppose many people probably lost quite a bit in the market in just that short span of time.

It seems to me that this marks the start of a long overdue correction that everyone was waiting for. If this is really the start, I suppose the next few days will be quite reddish… 400points in the DOW is still just a small indicator on the DOW charts…

Bottomline is, invest with money that you can afford to lose. And do your due diligence as well as your risk management. Good luck to everyone that is doing trading and reading my blog.

When its Raining in Brazil, Buy Starbucks - Trading Strategy.

July 24th, 2007 · 2 Comments

I learnt a lot from this book… Just by taking 1 idea from this book gave me helped me gained a substential amount of profit to buy 50copies of the book.

I borrowed the idea of identifying the ripple effect caused by a event. I m sure everyone by now would have known about the sub prime woe affecting the USA housing market. All I did was to start buying puts of the housing developers on their very next earning reports.

I was not very surprised that their earnings were terrible.

This is really a very good book. If you are into trading, have this book on your shelves.
